Bath Rugby can confirm England international Sam Underhill has extended his stay with the Blue, Black and White.
The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the leading flankers in the country over the past five seasons since making his international debut.
He joins fellow back rowers Alfie Barbeary, Josh Bayliss, Chris Cloete, Jaco Coetzee, Ted Hill and Miles Reid in committing themselves to the club for next season.
“Sam has proved his quality at international and club level for a number of years,” Head of Rugby Johann van Graan said.
“He is a leader, has fantastic defensive qualities and still has a great desire to develop his game. Sam complements the other back row players who will be with us next season and we are excited by the impact he will continue to have on the group.”
Since moving to Bath in 2017, Underhill has been an influential figure for club and country.
A powerful and destructive forward who is a menace at the breakdown, he has earned 29 England caps since debuting for his country against Argentina and was a key in his country’s run to the 2019 Rugby World Cup final.
He then played a significant part in Bath’s run to the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership play-offs and surpassed 50 appearances for the club in 2021.
Underhill returned to action on Saturday at Exeter Chiefs and is ready to make an impact for the Blue, Black and White for the long-term.
He added: “I have learned an incredible amount over the past five years at Bath and I’m thoroughly looking forward to seeing where I can take my game with the group of staff and players we have here.
“I want to contribute to a successful Bath side, and I know everyone is pulling in the same direction to help the club achieve great things in the seasons to come.”
